Some days I think it would be easier to just live a really simply life, in a quiet coastal town. Waiting tables at a seaside inn that has the worlds best crepes or something fantastic that people drive from near and far to enjoy. I would wake up early and drink coffee and read and listen to the ocean and the redwoods collide and think about nothing pressing other than my 8 tables I’ll most likely have during the lunch rush. I took this picture a little over three years ago, on my weekly jaunt to Big Sur. The central coast of California is such an amazing part of the country.i used to live in goleta, about 25 minutes north of santa barbara, and dated the guy who lived the simple beach town life. it was great, weekends at the beach, no cares, cooking vegetarian food, endless talk about seeing t.c. boyle at the market. i still look back all the time and wish that i could be satisfied with just that. unfortunately, i’m not.
I live in Goleta now, and all I can say is, cherish your memories. The keys to the city have been handed over to Orange County developers who will pave the place over and put a starbucks on every corner before you can say “BMW SUV.”
